Summary: If you remember the 60s, you might recall the time Ray Harryhausen helped bring to life Captain Nemo's private island of gigantic terrors. Well now, we're heading back, and the island is bigger, busier, and more treacherous than ever!
History: Long ago, Captain Nemo deserted the British empire, and retreated below the sea in his ship, the Nautilus. He later resurfaced in a secret base within an uncharted island filled with a special element that could give him great power. At the same time, it has turned the local wildlife into gargantuan versions of themselves. Bad news for a group of people left stranded there. And worse, there are pirates with the island in their sights, looking for treasure. Both parties are hardly prepared for the island's many surprises.
Notable Kills: The mantis biting a guy's head off.
Final Fate: It doesn't matter whether any of the animals live or die (they do a lot of the latter though). The whole island goes kaboom when the volcano erupts. The survivors depart while Nemo remains to go down with his creations. The only creature with any possible future is the giant cephalopod that guarded the island from the pirates.
Powers/Abilities: None.
Weakness: Anything conventional.
Scariness Factor: 3-Bad CGI is the deathly ingredient to an otherwise diverse and deadly menagerie of involuntary megafauna. The freakiest are the mantis, the mosquito, and the scorpion. Everything else stands a good chance of killing and eating you, in no particular order.
Trivia: -If you look closely in the climax of the second part of this miniseries, there is a modern tugboat. Not exactly a good look.
-The original novel by Jules Verne is rather bereft of any fantastical wildlife, with the most prominent animals being a domesticated orangutan and a helpful dugong.
